Do not adopt the proposed changes

As a parent of two talented and gifted children I strongly urge that these changes not be adopted. The local school boards do not have the training to judge gifted education plans.  It should continue to be a five year plan,  a yearly redevelopment is not necessary.  Most importantly, the funds for education of gifted students should only be used to support gifted education.   More teachers and funding should  go towards the support of those  talented , intelligent and curious  young people who are often overlooked and bored by the rote and repeat in the average classroom that they do not need.  Not every "gifted" child is fortunate enough to have a parent who is able or willing to give them what they need at home,  just as  not every special needs child can get what they need  at home.  If we support one, we should support the other.
