Virginia's Energy Plan must prioritize an equitable transition to clean energy

The Virginia Energy plan must focus on a just, equitable transition to a clean, renewable energy future - one which excludes further fossil fuel development. We do the Commonwealth a disservice by any continued development or investment in extractive industries which threaten our air and water quality, and limit our ability to participate in the growing clean energy economy. The progress we have made through programs like the Virginia Clean Economy Act and participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative are important steps in ensuring a safer, healthier environment and future for Virginians. Specifically, the over $375 million generated by our participation in RGGI has helped prepare Virginia with needed flood resilience infrastructure funding, and assistance with energy efficiency. Virginia can be a true leader in clean, renewable energy development, and the subsequent economic and workforce development which comes from that - especially via distributed solar and solar on brownfields. Please prioritize clean energy - and exclude anything from the plan which hinders that transition.
