Supporting the equal rights and equal protections of young transgender Virginians (transgender includes binary and non-binary trans people) is imperative. Trans youth don't deserve to be bullied or threatened just because of who they are. They don't deserve to be assaulted or killed just because of who they are. Their murderers shouldn't have the right to be shielded by hateful trans panic criminal defenses in court. They don't deserve the indignity or public humiliation of being dead-named or misgendered by administrators, teachers or other students. They don't deserve be excluded from gender-segregated spaces because of the sex they were assigned at birth. Or barred from using the bathrooms or locker rooms that align with their brain gender. They don't deserve to be denied social transition when they are pre-pubescent. They don't deserve to be denied hormone blockers to avoid unwanted puberties when as they enter the age of puberty. And they should be allowed transition hormones when they are fully secure in and confident of their brain gender, which often is well before they hit age 18. I am sick of the anti-trans commenters who have peddled harmful myths and twisted exceptions as the mainstream, going so far as to deny trans people's very existence. Lastly, extremist religious views, wrapped in the warped veil of "religious freedom," should never entitle anyone the right to harm transgender people like me, especially the most vulnerable -- transgender youth. Ever. Please, please, please, pass these proposed protections for trans and non-binary students.
