Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

OPPOSED to the Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students Proposed by the VDOE

Good afternoon! I am a mother, grandmother and former teacher and I am opposed to Radical Gender Theory being introduced into our Virginia School System.  The students of today and future generations would be much better served if the VDOE would refocus and put their primary energy and attention on educating our students in the areas of reading, writing, math and science.  That is why parents send their children into school.  They do not send their children into school to be socially indoctrinated and engineered into group think based on what the VDOE decides is best for everyone.  Really?  We are trying to climb out of a global pandemic and trying to get the students safely back into the school buildings so that the world can begin to function again, and this is what you are spinning your wheels about?  This is how our tax dollars are being spent?  I can only imagine all of the "professionals" and "experts" that lined their pockets to come up with these programs that will infiltrate and pollute every aspect of the curricula, sports activities, clubs, as well as any counseling and advocacy groups.  I beg of you for the welfare of our children, please get back to the job of being educators and leave the parenting to parents and the family.  You have no business there! Thank you for your time and attention.

Respectfully,

Anne Patsalosavvis
