Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Oppose this guidance document and policies developing from it.

The public school system must not be the arena for social experimentation for the radical agenda of the Democrat party that now rules in the General Assembly with an iron rod regardless of the negative impact on innocent and naive children who would affected.  It is a travesty the Democrat party would purposely brainwash young children to accept their agenda when the children don't have the cognitive ability to discern the policies they are being required to obey.  Often the parents are not aware of what the children are being exposed to and required to obey.  In a masked effort to protect a few children, the majority of children are being exposed and harmed to concepts that could radically change their mindsets.   Democrats like to call moral issues, "science" so that they have justification for their agenda.  There are plenty of stories of the negative impact of families that thought they were doing the right thing by supporting their children with transgender issues.  Later as adults these people share their traumatic stories of how their lives have been damaged by irreversible surgeries.  The public school systems are not opening up the doors to educate elementary school children in ways that could bring unnecessary confusion and choices that could negatively impact their lives.  Please do not use this public comment merely as a check-off to fulfill what the Virginia Code requires, but still not listen to the concerns of Virginians that don't share the Board membership's world view.  If the politicians and their political appointees don't start listening and responding to contrary views to develop more win-win solutions which foster mutual respect and honor, there will continue to be great divides that will increase the risk of civil discord.   At this point the public is at a severe stress point because  of the unrest that has occurred in 2020.  People fear for their futures and the futures of their children.  Stop being a part of the problem and start being a part of the solution.  In this particular situation, you have the authority to create a guidance document and policies that could be respectful to all, not just a few.
