As a Biologist, it is ignorant to believe that gender and sex are the same thing.  No unbiased scientist [so a real scientist] can be transphobic.  There are innumerable sexes solely in the human species- XX, XY, XYY, XXY, X, XXX, and so many others.  You cannot care about women if you are transphobic- if you believe that the only thing that makes a woman a woman is her chromosomes or genitalia, then you are only identifying a woman by her genitalia.

Women have suffered a social burden for one thousand years, and it is just that: social.  Gender has been complex for even longer.  The role of a woman, a man, or anyone in between, (as seen in the idea of a Two Spirited person) varies depending on the pre-colonial society. 

The origin of romance languages, Latin, and the society we framed our Democracy and ideals off of, had a complex understanding of gender.  The view of masculine ideas, feminine ideas, neutral ideas, and ideas that could have any and all gender resulted in the wonderful languages of Spanish, French, Portuguese, and so many more.  Not to mention that there are many individuals in the Ancient times who used different gendered adjectives that didn't agree with what they were assigned at birth!

My point is, because gender is social and so complex and individualized, it is time that we recognize that people who don't fit in the Western-cookie-cut idea of gender are people, and that they are protected as individuals, and that their safety is preserved.  This guidance document is essential to the safety of our students, and if you think otherwise, I would kindly ask you to read a book WITHOUT trying to force your own ideas onto it.
