Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

This Doesn't Follow the Science

I do not approve of these proposed guidelines based on these radical theories that eradicate all distinctions between male and female, indoctrinate our school children, and discipline those who disagree. Science in no way can speak to gender preference since it isn't rooted in anything scientific... it is relative to each person as they feel on any particular day. In fact, science itself reveals the binary nature of sexuality biologically. Follow the science! To give power to the school systems to help a child develop the identity of a child is to strip parents of their privilege and responsibility. Government does not have unlimited authority over the family unit; government only has the responsibility to preserve and protect the family unit. These troubling policies proposed by VDOE are totally unworkable and will force all students, faculty, administrators, and parents to comply with an empirically false view of sex and gender, even if it directly conflicts with their own fundamental beliefs.
