I fully support the humane and equal treatment of transgender and non-binary students so that they can fully thrive and safely attend VA schools. As I understand this bill it encourages guidelines in support of maintaining safe, and empathetic learning environments for transgender and non-binary students. As a child I was made fun of because other kids thought I was homosexual which I am not. I was very confusing for me and hurt deeply. We need to teach our children to be more unederstanding.
Transgender and non-binary students should be able: to live fully within their gender identity; to go by chosen names and pronouns; dress according to their gender identity; fully participate in all school activities, including sports teams that are in line with their gender identity; feel safe because there are programs in place to prevent any anti-transgender/non-binary bullying; etc.
