I have 65,000 hours of continuing training; it's called the active practice of engineering

It's unfortunate that the Commonwealth of Virginia has stooped to listening to the sales pitch of the professional training companies. My experience to date with another state that requires "mandatory training" suggests that many of the instructors could not earn a living, but for the artifical demand of their services created by regulation.

I am quite certain that I am not the only licensee who will bear the cost of this mandatory training out of his or her own pocket.  At some point, simple economics will take effect. Engineers giving up licenses because of adverse economic impact will not promote the protection of the public health and safety. As I recall, protecting the public health and safety is one of the reasons why the Commonwealth requires the licensing of those who hold themselves out to the public as engineers.
