who is in elementary school here in fairfax. I am in disbelief that this type of restraint is being used in the event the teachers and or staff deemed it necessary because my son isnt following direction or is displaying harmful behavior. How am i to be sure that the teacher and staff is just using that excuse to put my aon in a room? My son has communication difficulties(often many children with disabilities have) and If hes not able to explain what happened for him to be put under such stress in a place where hes supposed to learn then what am I to do as a mom? I feel powerless, I feel like if my son doesnt attend school he will be safer, I feel like im losing faith in the school system. I had a teacher in 3rd grade who belittled me, yelled at me (constantly),humiliated me, and threw a book at me infront of the whole class, I have never nor will I ever forget her treatment towards me on a regular but in particular that day she threw the book at me and I will not stand by and even imagine the possibility that my son may go thru what I went thru, which was also here in fairfax county public schools. This is a problem, I am one person just like many parents who have special needs kids that do not want this practice to continue, our children are not criminals to be restrained, especially the ones in elementary/ middle school.
