Opposed to PT's performing dry needling

Acupuncture is an effective form of relief and dry needling encompasses an aspect of this medicine.  Acupuncturists usually have 2-3000 hours of training in this modality and if MD's need 300 hours to learn acupuncture- why would PTs only need a weekend course? Acupuncturists & MDs study to functionally see how close structures are to the surface of the skin to avoid injury by puncturing.   PTs do not have this experience with depths of needle insertion in mind.  It is a public safety issue occurring unnecessarily. Puncturing a lung or a swollen liver, causing nerve damage are all real risks.   At the very least,  these PT's should have training, but I do not agree with practicing just an aspect of acupuncture without knowledge of the full scope of the medicine and its theories. When people think they have had dry needling they are missing many additional benefits that acupuncture has to offer.   Thank you for your time and consideration in this public safety matter.
