'Dry needling' is acupuncture therapy. No to ANY PT needling.

As a licensed acupubcturist and massage therapist for over 14 years, I am troubled over this potential danger for patients who, with little undrstanding of training background, stand to be injured or treated improperly with this proposed modality change in scope of practice. I have received continued and extensive training in acupunture and needling therapy including amatomy and physiolog but when a client may need extensive movement therapy, I am the first to refer them to a qualified Physical Therapist to perform movement modalities their profession is trained and set out to do. THIS IS WHAT PATIENTS DESERVE. TO SEE THE BEST QUALIFIED AND TRAINED THERAPIST FOR THE NECESSARY TREATMENT. NOT A WATERED DOWN VERSION OF A TREATMENT MODALITY. IT DOES NOT SERVE THE PATIENT'S BEST INTERESTS. Furthermore, it can lead to the opposite desired outcome if training and understanding of the treatment by an unqualifed practitioner, thus leading to possible harm and an incomplete or unsuccessful outcome. I urge the governing body to reject this legislature and align with needle therapy to be practiced by the most thoroughly trained to do so: acupuncturists.
