I don't think PT should be doing dry needling. Dry needling is an technique that comes from acupuncture and therefore should be only performed by an licensed acupuncturist. PTs do not have any training in accuputure, and allowing them to do dry needling is akin to having a dermatologist do neurosurgery. Dry needling can be dangerous to patient if used improperly. So when performed by a PT who is not an licensed acupuncturist, it can lead to serious side effects or injuries to the nervous system or organs. Therefore, it's important to not allow dry needling for PT.
