Dry needling is acupuncture

To start dry needling is a style of acupuncture.  My biggest concern with dry needling is the lack of training specifically in acupuncture.  I understand that PT's are well versed in anatomy. That is not my concern. My concern is the safety of the unassuming public. Acupuncturist go through years of training and clinical education before being allowed to perform acupuncture. Essentially PT's are using acupuncture needles and doing a very invasive style of acupuncture after only having a very limited number (in Colorado its 48 hrs) of training. Even doctors and chiropractors have to do a medical acupuncture program which is around 300 hrs before being allowed to do acupuncture. Doctors have even already had training in minor sugery, injections and Phlebotomy. As far as I understand in PT training they don't learn to put insert needles into people, learn clean needle technique and learn the proper angle and depth to insert needles into specific areas. This is what they are learning in their "dry needling" training. There is clearly a disconnect here and it is very important to keep people safe. There's potential to injure organs and more when not trained properly.
