the danger of not knowing what you don't know...

Dear Virginia Regulatory Town Hall,

I have been a Physical Therapist for 14 years, and I recently graduated as a naturopath and acupuncturist from Bastyr University. I am AGAINST Physical Therapist doing dry needling for the simple reason that there are so many nuances to the practice of needle insertion than mere stimulation of an Ashi or Trigger Point. PT's who attend weekend seminars to learn this skill cannot comprehend the vastness of this medicine, and will do a disservice to the acupuncture as a profession as well as misrepresent this wonderful modality to a large portion of the population who seeks out Physical Therapy services. With so little training, a PT will not know what he or she does not know of this subtle medicine that takes years to understand and a lifetime to master. The most dangerous person is that person who does not know the extent of his or her ignorance, and this would be a PT with an acupuncture needle and pretending it to be a "dry needle."
