Research supports that physical therapists performing dry needling is safe. There is growing evidence to support the use of dry needling by PTs for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Patients benefit greatly from this procedure and they should have the option to receive needling by a physical therapist if they choose to. No one profession owns a needle, nor is the use of a needle by a physical therapist the same as when an acupuncturist uses a needle to treat their patients.
