Dry needling is acupuncture, only licensed acupuncturist can do it. For the safety of public and for the efficacy of acupuncture, only fully trained licensed acupuncturist can practice dry needling. Dry needling is out of scope of practice of PT. PTs are not allowed to do anything to penetrate skin and can cause serious injuries which has been reported widely in the past years.
