I wish to register my opposition to, and grave reservations about the govenror's  ill advised, politically motivated executive order restricting law abiding citizens of Virginia from being able to protect themselves when doing business at state offices.

FIrst of all, the right of all Americans to protect themselves, any where, any time, by use of firearms is guaranteed by our Constitution.  The proposed action is an unconstitutional, and therefore unlawful infringement of that right.

Second, the types of people who would bring a firearm into a government facility to kill people, are by definition NOT going to obey the law that says they cannot bring a weapon into the facility. Criminals and lunatics do NOT obey the law.  Did the laws in California prevent the islamic terrorist murderers form slaughtering coworkers at a Christmas party?  Did the laws in Connecticut prevent a depraved teenage mental case from murdering people at a school?  Did laws forbidding students to carry guns at Virginia Tech protect the students? Did the same type of policy, allegedly in place to "protect" workers, do anything to help the soldiers murdered in Chatanooga?

The notion that criminals and lunatics will obey a law not to bring a gun into a government facility is laughable, and dangerous to all the law abiding citizens, and the state workers. If they are willing to violate the laws that forbid murder, assault and such, why would anyone expect them to then obey this law?

All this law will do is leave state workers, and those trancsacting business at state offices helpless when evil walks in the door and starts shooting. And predictably when (not if) this happens, our state leaders will attempt to use the tragedy as a reason to force more unwanted, and unconstitutional gun control on us.

The timing of this action, and the "Comment Period" are also an obvious affront to the citizens of Virginia. The state has convenietly set this up to occur during the Holiday season, when folks are focused on holiday preparations, traveling, and focusing on family. The comment period for this action should be extended to insure that ALL citizens of Virginia who wish to educated themselves, and comment, have time to do so.
