Strongly opposed to state agency building gun ban
I'm incensed that our governor would propose a regulation that would restrict my ability to protect myself and my family like this one will. What do all the mass shootings we have heard about in the news lately have in common? They've all been done in "gun-free zones", as this regulation seeks to mimic. The police take 5 minutes to arrive in the best of circumstances and it has been ruled that they have no legal duty to protect, as seen in Warren v. DC. Furthermore, concealed handgun permit holders have been proven to have a lower crime rate than than the police themselves. Why then, do we need regulations that will infringe on the rights of the most law-abiding group of people in the state? Murderers and armed robbers understand that there are laws against murder and robbery, but consciously choose to disobey them. Why would they behave any differently with this proposal? Not only does this proposal stop concealed handgun permit holders from protecting themselvesand their loved ones, it would prevent off-duty police officers from carrying their handguns in these areas too. Lastly, where does the governor get the authority to implement this regulation? He doesn't have it. The General Assembly would have submitted a bill and voted on it if this non-problem needed addressing.
Please extend the comment period and withdraw this useless and dangerous proposal.
