Dry Needling

Reading through the comments I would say we have a classic turf war going on. Let's keep facts straight and get emotion out of discussion.

  1. Dry needling is not acupuncture. Methodology and treatment goals are not the same
  2. Physical therapists, most of whom have doctoral degrees, have the background knowledge.to perform TDN if they undergo specific post graduate training which currently consists of 54 hours of training.
  3. Considering the research published on TDN there is no doubt that it is an effective modality.

So, why restrict its use by physical therapists? Is there a reason other than personal economics concerns for reversing approval for physical therapists to perform this modality? Is personal economics more important than patient convenience and favorable outcomes?
