Endangers state employees and the citizens of the Commonwealth
This action only endangers state employees and the citizens of the Commonwealth. In order for our state govenment to function, citizens are required to visit state buildings. Terrorists are not law abiding people and this action only creates more potential targets for their criminal acts. The Commonwealth of Virginia provides constant armed security for the governor to ensure his safety and protection. Why should Virginia citizen's be unarmed and rendered unable to defend themselves? The FBI's study of active shooter incidents in the United States between 2000 - 2013, indicates these terrorist incidents are becoming more frequent and occur in such a short span of time, law enforcement can not respond quickly enough. It is illogical to believe that disarming law abiding citizens will make our Commonwealth safer in light of this growing terrorist threat. I ask that our state legislature do everything possible to reverse the governor's action and return to the citizens the ability to defend themselves and their families at all times.
