Trigger point dry needling is an effective and useful intervention for patients with myofascial dysfunction that is adversely effecting their musculoskeletal health and contributing to pain. Like all physical therapy interventions I do not use dry needling as a stand-alone modality but rather in combination with education, corrective exercise, and manual therapy. When used appropriately it is safe, effective, and assists in improving function and resolving symptoms more quickly. The many hours of training received in graduate school, post graduate, specialty certifications, anatomy, neuroantomy, pathophysiology, safety, technique, case studies, and specific dry needling testing are more than adequate to produce a discerning practitioner that is safe in providing effective dry needling services to the public. To prevent a trained physical therapist the ability to provide dry needling services would ultimately hurt the public by denying access to a safe and effective treatment.
