The ban takes away the right of citizens to protect themselves, and can force carriers to leave their protection in parked vehicles (very dangerous).  This decision was politically motivated, and was an extreme over-reach of governing power. The ban ensures that criminals and politicians are protected by firearms, while law-abiding constituents are not.
