Creation of Gun Free Zones creates kill zones for the criminally insane, terrorists, and murderers.

Individuals who have attacked schools, businesses and killed the innocent have all been, by definition, mentally deranged. Mentally deranged people and criminals clearly pay no attention to legislation or regulations forbidding them to own guns and have no difficulty obtaining weapons, despite many existing laws intended to prevent them doing so. The sheer number of guns already in existence makes it impossible to keep them out of the hands of criminals and the mentally deranged.

Any area designated as ‘gun free’ simply delineates a space where law-abiding gun owners are prevented from taking guns. It also advertises to any would-be attacker that he will be free to kill at leisure without return fire.

Since there are certainly many mentally deranged people in the world, it follows that we will most assuredly see more attacks on schools and other helpless targets.

No amount of legislation or regulation limiting the type of gun, ammunition or capacity of magazine that can be purchased by law-abiding citizens will make any measurable difference to the facts stated above, either immediately or in the foreseeable future.

If we truly wish to protect the innocent (rather than use the recent tragedies in Paris and California as an excuse to pursue a political agenda or pander to uninformed public hysteria) then we must proactively protect them in the same way we protect any valuable asset – by providing an effective defense against an armed attacker.

It should be obvious that the only way to stop an armed madman is an armed defender.

However, there is no provision in the Constitution of the United States for federal legislation to address this situation. It is clearly the responsibility of the various States and The People to protect their citizens as they see fit. Each state, town and school administration should be free to make its own decisions on how to best protect its own children.

This proposed regulation by the Governor is a solution for which there is no problem.  It endangers state employees, law abiding citizens, and the innocent by making state buildings a safe zone for terrorists, criminals, and the criminally insane to conduct their evil and savage actions.

This regulations should not be approved and the emergency regulation withdrawn.
