Commenter: Rockingham County Electoral Board via GR

Current Voter Application Should Stand

After listening to the comments made at the recent public hearing in Chesterfield, the Rockingham County Electoral Board has gone on record at a meeting held August 3, 2015, directing the General Registrar to offer the following comments regarding the proposal to change the Voter Application Form:

First and foremost, the proposed change in the size of the voter application form will require an alternative filing method as the current filing system will not accommodate the application as it is being proposed.

Rural address/homeless are two areas that are not defined on the new form.

Offering applicants the opportunity to list “none” for a Social Security number invites them to skip over this question, and the lack of or omission of the SSN will cause Voter Registrars problems in identifying prospective voters.

Based on these facts plus the pending November 3 General Election and looming Presidential election year, the Rockingham County Electoral Board would request that the SBE leave the current voter application form intact as it currently stands as it is felt that the existing application is not prejudiced toward any group or individual and offers the very basic of information that is required for the General Registrar to properly process in accordance with Virginia Code.
