Given the already low approval ratings for all things dealing with government these days, the LAST thing we should be doing is anything that will undermine the integrity of the voting process...and these changes, quietly being ushered in by the new regime, will do exactly that.  DO NOT change the voter registration form -- it has been working quite well and dilution of the individual's responsibility for taking an unlawful act by knowingly voting illegally will not help the problem.  Prosecution of the lawbreakers will be very difficult under the new system.
