Controlled Substances

I am concerned that because a prescriber signs the PPCR, there is the perception that he/she is viewing the medications that were administered to the patient.  The possibility always exists that the administration record could be altered in the time between transitioning the patient to the ER and exchanging the Drug Kit.  However, I believe that there would be greater potential for the administration record to be altered /inaccurate, when the requirement for the physician's signature (and presumed observation of it) is no longer present.  When an administration record can be altered, the potential for controlled substances to be diverted increases.
