Please leave the decision up to the individual school, department, and classroom. As I learned when I taught at the secondary level in Virginia, the needs and capacities differ widely in the classroom and cannot be broadly determined. Further, parents are currently able to opt their children out of reading any material they find objectionable. Please do not burden teachers and administration when schools are already taxed and overwhelmed.
