SB 924 TRAP Laws

I would like to express my strong objection to implementing TRAP laws in Virginia. These laws will increase financial burdens on not only women's health care providers, but will make safe and legal abortions and preventive medical care out of reach for many women, especially those with lower incomes. These laws are unfairly discriminatory against abortion providers who, as a matter of fact, don't even routinely use general anesthesia in their practices. This is in contrast to other surgical centers such as ophthalmalogists or even dentists who do and are NOT subject to these strict guidelines. Those using general anesthesia have a much higher risk of patient complications than abortion clinics! Abortions have been shown to be one of the safest of all medical procedures not only in Virginia, but throughout the United States and the world.

Many women's health centers provide critical preventive care such as PAP tests, breast screenings, family planning, and STD testing and treatment. The regulations would not only punish seekers of abortions, but would punish those seeking preventive health care as well.

Please, PLEASE do not impose these unfairly restrictive, clearly politically motivated, and publically unsupported regulations. It is a direct blow and insult to the women of Virginia and the medical professionals who continue to serve them safely and with care.

Thank you.
