APRN as recognized title for advanced practice registered nurses: NP, CNS.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse title has been in the vernacular of advanced practice nursing across Amercia for well over twenty years. It enables recognition for consumers and colleagues to identify  those who have been educated and certified at a post Baccalaureate, Master's and Doctoral level with specialized education and skills. We are an enormous resource for patients and leaders in the health care delivery system, education and administration. It is time for Virginia to recognize this particular descriptive title as we move forward. Psychiatric and Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialists have been independently practicing in Virginia since HB 1028 was implemented and signed into law  in 1989 and have proveided care, consultation and service to patients needing specialized services in Virginia.
