Bear Island Battery Storage LLC provided the Department of Environmental Quality a notice of intent to submit the necessary documents for a permit by rule for an 89 megawatts alternating current (MWAC) small energy storage facility in Surry County, pursuant to Virginia Regulation 9VAC15-100. The Bear Island Battery Storage facility (RE0000371) will be located at 15093 Marsh Road in Surry, Virginia with the project centroid coordinates located at 37.081789, -76.744106. The proposed project area is 42-acres with a disturbance area of 13 acres and will contain 132 battery containers and 66 power conversion systems. The owner of the project is Clenera LLC based in Idaho, a subsidiary of Enlight Renewable Energy.
