Mandate Title:
Amend regulations to add notification for physical therapy requirements and requiring hospitals with an ED to establish a treatment for individuals experiencing a substance use-related emergency
Purpose of legislation
Add notification procedures for physical therapy requirements prior to discharge. Require hospitals with an emergency department (ED) to establish a treatment protocol for individuals experiencing a substance use-related emergency that must include the completion of assessments or screenings to identify medical interventions necessary for treatment and may include: i) a process for patients that are discharged directly from the ED for the recommendation of follow-up care following discharge for any identified substance use disorder, depression, or mental health disorder, as appropriate; ii) instructions for distribution of naloxone; iii) referrals to peer recovery specialists and community-based providers of behavioral health services; or iv) referrals for pharmacotherapy for treatment of drug or alcohol dependence or mental health diagnoses.
