Texas Hold'em Poker Tournaments
Purpose of legislation
This legislation amends the Charitable Gaming Law, in part, to add Texas Hold'em poker tournaments to the list of gaming activities that constitute charitable gaming in Virginia and to require the Charitable Gaming Board to adopt regulations that prescribe the conditions under which a qualified organization may manage, operate or contract with operators of, or conduct Texas Hold'em poker tournaments. Additionally, the Board’s regulations shall provide that the predetermined percentage of gross receipts that is established in the existing regulation and that a qualified organization must use for its lawful religious, charitable, community, or educational purpose may, in the case of Texas Hold’em poker tournaments, be used for expenses related to compensating operators contracted by the qualified organization to administer such events.
