Gun Free Zones only make criminals safer

The statistics on holders of Concealed Carry Permits are clear. These highly vetted law abiding citizens, who choose to legally carry firearms for self defense, have a near zero record of committing crimes. They have prevented or stopped countless acts of violence by criminals who do not care about which laws they are breaking or what signs may be posted. Every mass shooting in recent years has occurred in a "Gun Free Zone" where the perpetrators have assurance they can kill innocents with no opposition from armed citizens. There's a big reason that Virginia has a dramatically lower crime rate than neighboring Maryland and D.C.. It's Virginia's relatively less restrictions on our Second Amendment freedoms that has directly improved our safety. The Second Amendment is clear that our right to defend ourselves with firearms is not to be infringed. This executive action, in the name of 'common sense' and safety, is neither common sense, safety or constitutional. Shame on you, Governor, for ruling against the will of the law abiding citizens of our Commonwealth to satisfy the hysterical demands of the anti-gun activists who defy the natural law of self defense.
