Government buildings are targets of terrorism, why make it easier for terrorists to succeed?

In light of more recent and frequent ISIS and ISIS inspired threats, the ability for lawful citizens to be able to arm and protect themselves from all threats foreign and domestic is more present than ever. We can not rely on the response time of Emergency services. This only leads to more unnecessary casualties and more time for criminals and terrorists to leave the scene and escape to repeat unlawful acts again and again. With no evidence to show that firearms were purchased within a short time frame before a mass shooting we can not be under the impression that restricting firearms purchase in anyway will also eliminate these types of violent crimes.
