My family and my defense comes first, and as Virginia citizens, it should come first to the govenor. It's been shown time and time again that gun free zones don't work. Everyone in opposition to gun RIGHTS brings up VA-Tech--- gun free zone. Nearby, the Navy Yard? Gun free zone.  What about in Texas with the Muhammad drawing contest? Zero casualties, two dead terrorists. Virginia crime is lower than DC and MD, why try to make us like them? Virginia can't afford the cost that it would take to 'give' protection to every state agency, that money could better be used elsewhere. The govenor doesn't have the authority to bypass the processes in place in Virginia just because he isn't getting his way. If the General Assembly wanted the governor to have such power, they would have granted it to him explicitly, as is required constitutionally. There is no evidence that suggests that a ban in state agencies would make anyone any safer, in fact, looking for facts, just the opposite is true.
