Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Everyone is entitled to respect and freedom from harassment and bullying.  There are already policies in place about that issue.  Perhaps it needs to be made stronger or enforced more consistently.

The Bible tells us God created everyone either male or female and each one is a unique person.  Everyone should be able to accept males who are more sensitive and females who are tomboys.  They each have a valuable place in our society and have many valuable things to contribute to our world.  There is nothing wrong with them that needs fixing or changing.  If God hadn't been removed from public life (including our public school system) it would be easier to help students see the value in differences in peoples personalities and to accept those differences as good, normal and given by God to benefit all of us.  Tomboys help us females concentrate more on having a healthy body and active lifestyle.  Sensitive boys grow up to be nurturing men who are good fathers, good husbands and good employees and employers.  They show concern when it's needed and help make life more pleasant especially when things get rough.

I know several people quite well who are or have been homosexual.  They all had a father who was absent, very dysfunctional or they had endured sexual abuse as they were growing up.  Several have gotten counseling from professionals who specialize in these types of issues and are now happy they didn't have access to or encouragement to make permanent, life altering changes with surgery or hormones.  They are now adults who say they are happy and they act like they are.  Those I know who are still practicing homosexuals admit they are still unhappy and dislike themselves although they've gotten counseling to accept themselves as homosexual.

Allowing biological makes in the same bathroom or locker room with biological females is a recipe for potential rape.  How would females protect themselves from males who are only pretending to be female?  Allowing biological males to compete in sports against biological females pushes female sports back years.  Males have a different body makeup than females and their DNA hasn't changed even if the way they think about themselves has.  It's unfair to females to have to compete against males and to try to make them think they have an equal chance to succeed.

Parents should be part of their children's lives and decision making.  Parents have a long term interest in and relationship with their children unlike most school personnel.  Parents and their adult children will be left to pick up the pieces and try to correct the damage that was done by those who are no longer part of their lives.  Unless parents have been deemed in a court of law to be so bad they have lost permanent custody of their children they have a right to know what is happening in their children's lives and be able to get their child the help they think they need.  Most teenagers think they know more than their parents.  I know I did but I've reversed my opinion about that a long time ago.  Whether the school system agrees with parents' values and views makes no difference as to who is supposed to be in charge of minor children.

I hope most of this policy will be struck down.  It's dangerous to experiment on people.  We all know the teen years and early 20s are times of figuring out who we are and what our values will be.  People need time to work through all that without being influenced to accept what is seen as the latest "great" ideas that will likely be discarded as time goes by.
