As a person with many friends that identify under the trans umbrella and a brother who is female to male trans, I know to them and many other trans people this is a matter of feeling respected and affirmed in their humanity. Individuals of the trans community have heavy scrutiny around their identity and are constantly harmed through misgendering and blatant acts of transphobia. Transgender teenagers are especially vulnerable to attacks and microagrressions against them. Having an affirming environment can prevent so many trans students deaths and mental declines. So, please, support this already heavily discriminated community.
