TRAP - regulations review

In my opinion, abortion should be readily available, safe and rare.  A health regulatory agency - despite being a part of government and, thus, is inherently political - should regulate to promote the public health; regulations should be scientifically based.  Too often, abortion has been politicized and regulations have been used to 'end run' statutary and/or case law, in order to promote a particular political agenda.  Until the law changes, it is crucial for this state agency to avoid being used as a political tool and to make regulatory decisions based on the objective promotion of the pregnant woman's health.  Those who, in good conscience, cannot do this should recuse themselves from the process on this issue and engage their beliefs at the polls.  When they do so, I hope that they will give as much attention to the needs of the infant and mother after birth as they do to the fetus and pregnant woman before.
