Women’s Reproductive Health Rights

Women must have access to reproductive health care that includes family planning/birth control and safe, affordable legal abortion. I believe the need for abortions will decline with the increase of age appropriate sexual health education in our public schools. I believe the need for abortions will decline when men begin to also be held accountable and responsible for their behavior that results in pregnancy. Women have the right to control our own bodies. There are no laws governing men’s bodies, only women’s.

This country is founded on religious freedoms. One religion does not have the right to tell American women that we don’t have the right to legal, safe, affordable abortions, because of their Christian beliefs. If your religion forbids abortion then don’t have one. But the Christian Right does not have the right to tell others what is okay for them to choose.

There is supposed to be a separation of church and state. We are on a very slippery slope when we allow politicians to decide what women’s reproductive rights are when they come from their own perspective of their religion and not from a place of what is good for women. Even insurance companies are now not covering birth control pills or at a higher copay but Viagra is covered and likely become over the counter.

We must not have this double standard in the legislation of our bodies by gender. Where are the women’s voices on reproductive health in our government. Only men are making these decisions to control women’s bodies and push women into further second class citizenship. An unwanted pregnancy becomes an unwanted child and our present federal administration shows that they don’t want to spend any money raising these children. Enough children in our country live in poverty and hunger.

Not having access to safe affordable professional reproductive health care will cause more deaths of women as they may be force to seek illegal abortions. Whether we agree or disagree about taking an unborn fetuses life, we have no problem with sending our men and women off to illegal wars to kill or be killed. We don’t seem to have a problem with the death pentaly but we need the government to protect unborn fetuses. Such hypocrisy.

Like I said, if you are against abortion, don’t have one but you do not have the right to make that decision for other women. Vote to keep abortions legal, safe and affordable and initialte and fund sex education in our public school for our children and programs to teach boys about consent and responsibility and maybe abortions will decline. I have never talked to a woman who made a decision to have an abortion lightly or without years of emotional healing because of that choice. Men never have to experience this so they should keep their hands off women’s bodies when it comes to reproductive health choices!
