I strongly urge you to resist Gov. McDonnell's attempt to pass an amendment that would ban abortion coverage from being sold on the Virginia state health insurance exchange.
Nearly 90 percent of insurance plans in the private market currently include coverage for abortion care. Preventing Virginians from using their own money to purchase private plans that include this one common type of coverage could have disastrous consequences for women's health. In addition, Virginia law already prohibits public funding for abortion so this amendment is unnecessary.
There is no reason for this abortion ban amendment and it will deprive Virginia women of coverage for comprehensive reproductive health care. Thank you for your time and consideration on this issue.
