The recently-enacted state standards requiring Virginia abortion facilities to be subject to basic standards of medically appropriate sanitation and patient care, are long overdue, and should be finalized as soon as possible.  If the abuses found by state inspectors in Virginia's abortions clinics (which provoked the regulations in the first place --and which, according to the most recent inspections, are still continuing) had been going on in any other type of for-profit surgical facility, the press wouldn't have buried the reports of them, and the corrective measures would have been non-controversial.  But the "abortion contortion" is on full display here, as a handful of fanatics and paid abortion-industry shills try to outshout any opposition to the "right" of abortionists to subject women to 19th-century and Third World-style sanitary conditions, all because they're too lazy and cheap to practice medicine under safe and sterile conditions.  Not one penny of profit, apparently, should be allowed to go to "unnecessary overhead" like keeping women from being infected, maimed and killed.  Making abortion safe for women by supposedly putting the unsafe and unsanitary "back alley butchers" out of business has been a mantra of the abortion lobby for 50 years.  This position ceases to command any credibility if the standard of patient care is going to be exactly the same as it was in the back alleys 50 years ago, and the lobby is going to fight every common-sense attempt to impose normal modern patient care practices.
