The people opposed to this are on such a hair trigger when it comes to anything about race and education. No one is teaching your kids to hate themselves for being white, coming from a white person, I’m secure in my skin color because I can recognize white people’s incredibly destructive history towards people of color, but I can also recognize that being born white I have been gifted the chance to not continue that history, at least with my own actions. What are you choosing to do with that gift; scream about a solution to a glaring problem so that you can keep pretending the problem doesn’t exist? It’s giving “I’m fragile and insecure about myself and my place in this ever-changing world, and so I’m going to get defensive over something that wasn’t attacking me in the first place.” I genuinely do not mean this in a condescending way: take a step back, and take a deep breath. Making sure that teachers have the proper education in order to fully support students of color is a good thing!!! I wouldn’t be who I am without my past teachers’ support, and I can’t imagine how different my life would be if they hadn’t known how to support me; let’s please give that experience to all children.
P.S. Tatiana, babes, if you’re reading this, saying that everyone who doesn’t agree with you is a bot makes you sound like a ing idiot. But thanks for the laugh xoxo
