Description of Proposed Guidance Document Changes
The language, "Drivers with a diagnosis of cognitive impairment of any type, mild, moderate, or severe must successfully pass the DMV knowledge test and then the DMV road test, will be replaced with the following language: " Drivers with a diagnosis of cognitive impairment of any severity that may affect their ability to drive or a diagnosis of dementia of any type must successfully pass the DMV knowledge test and then the DMV road test." This change enables DMV to identify and evaluate driers who are at-risk while excluding individuals who do not need to be evaluated.
