Uphold Standards, Protect Women

Board of Health,

My local newspaper, The News Leader, Staunton, VA publishes restaurant inspection reports. Every vender, from schools to cafes, must undergo periodic inspections. Violations are listed as critical or non-critical.My beautician must display a professional license. My dentist and doctors offices are vigorously regulated for the health of its patrons. Why not abotion clinics" They perform operations (politely called "procedures") on women. These operations are invasive to her body and dangerous to her health. The General Assembly recently required the Virginia Board of Health to formulate and enforce reasonal standards to insure that abortion facilities are clean and safe. There is nothing wrong with the requirements that are in force now. They are both reasonable and safe. From many reports around the state and nation, there are many operators of abortion clinics who care nothing about the health and safety of their customers, offering only dirty, rusty, sloppy, and unsanitary facilities and procedures. This cannot be allowed.I respectfuloly urge you to affirm and enforce the existing standards. Our women and families deserve the best in ALL medical facilities.Thank you for holding the line on standards that protect the health of women, rather than protecting the profits of unscrupulous operators. Most sincerely, Stephen S. Renalds
