Change in Apprenticeship Requirements

The reduction of the length of apprenticeship for Opticians in Virginia is a positive move that will help expand the opportunities for individuals desiring to make Opticianry their profession and career. There is a shortage of Licensed Opticians in Virginia, placing our citizens at risk for poorly crafted and fitted eyewear and the resulting poor outcomes.

Additionally, requiring the didactic portion of the education and training to be approved by the Board ensures that every apprentice is equally prepared for the licensing exam.

I am very excited that this has come about.
