TRAP

Overly onerous Targeted Regulations on Abortion Providers (TRAP) are designed to regulate
abortion out of existence. These regulations curtail a woman’s ability to obtain a legal medical procedure by insisting that the health care clinics which perform D&Es (dilation and evacuations) be subject to a number of additional and onerous requirements. Many of these so-called ‘safety requirements’ within the TRAP Laws in Virginia clearly have nothing to do with medical safety. For example, some of the some of the regulations specify a specific height of a boiler room, that outdoor heating and cooling systems have a maximum decibel level, and that clinics must have fixed specifications for the type of fabric used on window coverings. These regulations have no impact on a clinic's safety.

These efforts are illegal and unconstitutional. Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, and Virginia should not interfere with that. The 40,000 women living in my district deserve to be able to exercise their constitutional rights. I urge the Virginia Board of Health, when re-evaluating the regulations, to let science and medicine guide health regulations, not politics.
