While the goal of those proposing to ease oversights of abortion providers is to endure all women have free access to these services, easing oversight places these women in jeopardy of medical complications.
The state of Virginia RIGHTLY oversees medical, dental, and psychiatric providers to ensure they provide safe and effective service to Virginians. While the rates of complications are reportedly relatively low, there sometimes ARE complications in abortions and some of these are life-changing and/or life-threatening. Given that an abortion is a very significant medical intervention, regulatory oversight of abortion providers is essential to guarantee the health and welfare of the women of Virginia. Moves by the Governor and those in the General Assembly to lessen or remove these requirements are ill-advised and contrary to their responsibility to protect and ensure the welfare of the citizens of Virginia.
