End Seclusion and Restraint

Being different in todays society is an obstacle in itself. Demonstrating behaviors are a form of communication that everyone uses daily, good or bad. Who knows what is going in a personal private life verbally, physically, mentally and emotionally. A school should be a safe space for all. Using restraint and seclusion is abuse by control and intimidation, plain and simple. Using restraint and seclusion is never a good thing as it causes muliple individuals engaging in a power struggle of who is superior that could result in trama, injury and some cases death. There are other proven techiques that could be used such as positively engaging  in providing care, comfort, compassion and empathic listening. It is easier to listen to someone while attempting to undertand what someone is trying to communicate whether it be wants, needs or pain. Move from an "I win" environment to "We win" opportunity. Respect is the beginning.
