Conversion therapy is a widely discredited practice that falsely alleges being LGBT is a mental illness. It tries to use shame, fear, and often psycological/physical torment to "cure" a person. The practices used often fall under widely accepted definitions of torture. People who survive this torture are at higher risks of depression, self-harm, and suicide. As such, I am, and the Virginia legislature should be, in full support of this ban on state-licensed therapists practicing or performing conversion therapy, especially on minors.
